I would like your advice

Thad and I have a decision to make. It is related to taking a family vacation. Here are the options:

1. Do nothing. Use the money to get a new dishwasher & other things that I wouldn't normally buy. (Our dishwasher sucks) Avoid travel stress with infant, enjoy cushion money, take in a Twins game in a few weeks when we return from Iowa, etc.

2. Go to Disney World in October during my fall break. Leave on a Wednesday and return Sunday. The Disney deal at that time is: Kids 9-under stay, play, and eat for free. Ryan turns 10 in December. Catch: I have conferences until 8:30pm Tuesday night. Flying out of Fargo is mucho spendy....Allegiant doesn't fly those dates.
Nice weather there, decent to busy crowds, and we would take in Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

3. Go to Disney World in August from the 17th-21. This is a Monday-Friday. It's free dining. That saves us well over $100/day on food. No one has to miss school. Allegiant flies from Fargo those dates...dirt cheap too.
Very HOT, supposed light crowds as much of the U.S. is back in school, rain?

Please advise....

If you HAVE to do the Disney thing I say go in August.

Otherwise, take a vacation at home. Bill and I take a week off in the summer to do stuff around the house, see a show/game and spend quality time together as a family without the travel aspect. It's great.

Thad and I are actually going to Vegas the first week of Aug, which is why he isn't so keen on going again. I think from my perspective, our kids are in something almost ALL summer. It's to the point where I feel we need to get out of town to just focus on our family. It's tough to force the kids to bond for seven days straight when there are so many kids around. Not to mention that Kate and Ryan are now old enough to want to be with friends more than us. Go figure!

I vote August. We went the last week of July last year to Disney and it was wonderful! Yes a little warm but we bought a couple of those water bottle fans and loved every minute of it!

I'd take a trip to just about anywhere right now. Just go, whatever you do. August would appeal to me too, but ulitmately you know the needs of your family far better :) Rick is saying no travel this summer, but I doubt we'll make it that long.

Right now we aren't going. Thad doesn't want to do two trips in one month. I can't drive make October work if we would have to drive to the cities, etc, and I work until 8:30pm.
Melissa: Thanks for the tips on the weather. I am not totally giving up just yet!

Okay, I don't mean to be a bummer here, but my question is, why do you want to go to DW AGAIN? I know it's the greatest place on earth and you love it, but even your third child, who will turn 4 tomorrow, has already been there 3 times. Is there another family destination you could visit in July that's only driving distance and less expensive overall? So what if the kids have baseball/dance/swimming/whatever--don't let those schedules prevent you from taking a family vacation. Kids miss dates during their summer involvements all the time. No worries.

What about Mount Rushmore? Storybook Land (great campground nearby)? Valley Fair? Wisconsin Dells? Medora? Just a thought...

Hi Bonnie, we did the whole car trip to SD, CO and Tetons and Yellowstone last summer. I think all kids need to have a long car trip to remember....there will be plenty of bonding and family time. There are cheap places to stay along the way and also keep a cooler packed with snacks. We did WDW in August 2007 for 9 days....and it was great, but we did it once and now off to new adventures. My vote would be a car trip somewhere and then get to your destination and relax!

I would say save your money or use it to pay off some debt. If you have any debt at all it is not time to play. To much of that going on in our country already.
